Anne-Marie and her Fabulous layout

I just love the Dream Catcher and as soon as I saw it I knew I had the perfect photo to go with it. I seldom get a decent photo of my biggest girl anymore but I managed to steal this one from her a little while ago.  I chose this paper as my background because I really like the way the colours in the photo blend into it so well.  I cut the photo into a circle to mimic the circle of the dream catcher web. The dots on the paper also reinforce the circle theme tying the design together.

I used a gesso and water mix spray on the dream catcher and alphas because I wanted a very thin layer of paint to be sure all the beautiful and intricate details showed through. I had to do a couple of coats to get the right amount of coverage. I like the translucent effect it created with the greyish tones of the chipboard sort of coming through like a shading effect.

Then I used Pearl Glimmer mist give them a bit of shimmer and shine. I was actually down to the last little bit in the bottle so I applied it with a paint brush using a dabbing motion to get a very subtle mottled effect.

I added a tonne of bling, a couple of sequins, a bit of cotton and a couple of Kaisercraft brads.

Fabulous

Mixed Media Inspiration with Jodie

Hi everyone and welcome back to the Your Creative Wings blog for some mixed media inspiration today!

This gorgeous, doodley, almost gothic styled patterned paper from Prima provided me with the inspiration this month to create a gothic yet feminine layout.  I've also featured three of the frames from Your Creative Wings {Frames Collection} (link 1) in this one layout.

This layout has lots of layers and different mediums to it, and even some textural elements like micro and glass beads.

Moments
To create the base layers I adhered strips of patterned paper in a random pattern and added some torn up pieces of old sewing pattern tissue paper.  After dry brushing with gesso I added texture paste tinted with shavings from a pale pink Gelato through a stencil.

After working out the position of the outer frame I adhered some micro beads and then applied mists around the frame.
To treat the gorgeous Wreath - Leafy Set, I first spritzed the entire frame with water and let it sit for a couple of minutes to loosen the layers of chippy.  Then I took my scalpel (carefully so there are no scrapping injuries lol!), and scuffed up the top layer.  This doesn't have to be perfect, after all it's a random effect we're looking for.  Then apply a coat of gesso over the frame, so that you can still see some raw areas of chippy.  Give a quick dry with a heat tool and then add mists to sections of the frame.  Dry with a heat tool as you go, and add more colour as you like.
The Wreath - Willow frame has simply been given a coat of Distress Paint in Black Soot.

My title, Moments, has again been coated in Black Soot Distress Paint and then a coat of Glossy Accents.  Remember that these titles are quite flexible, so you can bend them out of their usual shape to suit your project.
I've tucked one of the little dress forms from the Mannequin Set into my flower cluster, with patterned paper adhered and some liquid pearls for added details, and of course some satin seam binding to accentuate the feminine side to a gothic layout!

I love digging into my stash of little bits and bobs that add detail to a project.  The Mini Butterflies Set is perfect to have on hand to add details in and around a flower cluster.  I've used some Tinby Metallic Melts here for their lovely metallic sheen.

I visited the Brisbane Scrapbook and Papercraft Expo a couple of weekends ago and had the opportunity to take a class by the lovely and very talented Sue Smythe.  This canvas gives a nod to the techniques and artistic style that she taught in the class, but with my theming and design.

Its Always Ourselves We Find in the Sea

How amazing is the Dreamcatcher chippy piece!?  I love the hearts and feathers and intricate criss-cross of threads in the main piece.  The Dreamcatcher and mesh panel pieces have been given a coat of Gesso and sprayed with Dylusions mists, and then finally dry brushed with gold acrylic paint.

The quote comes from one of my all-time favourite poems, Maggie and Milly and Molly and May by E.E. Cummings.

I've painted the heart in the dreamcatcher with gold paint and given a generous coat of Distress Crackle Paint in Rock Candy.  When that dried I spritzed with a black mist to accent the crackle.  I've also collected a few shells from our beach here and treated them with gesso, mists and gold paint as well.

The frame has been heat embossed with a mixed embossing enamel by Stampendous, and the alphas treated the same as the heart in the centre of the Dreamcatcher.
And as always, a bit of bling to finish this little canvas off!

Other product used:  Canvas, white & black gesso, Cuttlebug embossing folder, Tim Holtz Distress Crackle Paint in Rock Candy, Dylusions ink in Fresh Lime, Cut Grass, London Blue & Calypso Teal. Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist in Black Magic, gel medium, Stampendous Embossing Enamel in Aged Marine, acrylic paint, gauze, Wendy Vecchi Crackled Texture Paste, The Crafters Workshop stencil, metal ephemera, shells, hemp twine, typewriter, Stazon ink, diamontes, paper towel

Love You a layout by Rikki

Hi,  Rikki here again, with a quick share today using some of the lovely Your Creative Wings . I created this mixed media layout for Tomorrow's Memories and was lucky to teach it as a class, but I forgot to share it with you all.

''Love You''
Cardstock, 13@rts Template, Tim Holtz Distress stain mists,
White gesso, cotton.

I love this title piece, its just the right size to make a statement on your layout, and because its in a script font its fine enough to not over whelm your layout.

* Tip: When you punch on the centres of the Swirly Trim keep them, they are perfect to use on another layout, they are like raindrops.

Rikki with some perfect presents

Hi everyone, Rikki here today to share with you some canvas work using the lovely YCW Futterby Charm sets

These two canvases where done for two little girls for a birthday present. I was very lucky that each of the twins love different colours, which gave me an idea of doing them a little bit different but at the same time it looked like they where meant to be together.

This One Time at the Zoo, with Sue

Hello Everyone, It’s Sue here with you, sharing two layouts with you.

The first page features the mesh panel.  I wanted to use this piece as a background.  Firstly I sprayed painted the chipboard white and then used my Tim Holtz Antique Linen distress dauber to add a light cream layer.  Next, I cut the chipboard in half horizontally and then used my scissors to take little pieces out of the edges.  This gave the chipboard more of an aged look, similar to old chicken wire.  This created the perfect background to compliment the photo of my daughter and her friend and the ‘oh so lovely’ collection from Kaiser.

My second page features the gorgeous FloralFlourish Chipboard.  I love this one.  It is so fine and delicate.  To treat this piece, I applied a layer of Versamark ink (clear) and then sprinkled Gold Glitter Finish Zing embossing powder over the top.  After removing the excess powder, I heat set it.  The result is this beautiful lush, gold embellishment.  I cut the chipboard into two pieces so that I could use it on both sides of my page.
Just as a little side story, I volunteer one day a week at a little zoo and my daughter was lucky enough to come with me one day.  I snapped a couple of photos of her with the emperor tamarins.  I think she will remember the experience for a very long time and I’m glad I have the photos and layout to remind her in years to come.
